ADHD diagnosis and treatment for children and adults

Understanding ADHD to provide effective support

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, with or without hyperactivity) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders, and a thorough assessment is key to providing effective treatment.

What is ADHD and how does it affect people?

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily affects attention, impulsivity and self-regulation. It can occur in both childhood and adulthood, although in many cases it is not identified until later in life.

People with ADHD may experience difficulties concentrating, organising tasks, sustaining attention, or controlling impulses. This can affect academic and work performance, as well as personal relationships.

It is important to understand that ADHD is not simply “lack of attention,” but a different way of how the brain works that requires professional assessment to be properly understood.

ADHD assessment and diagnosis

I carry out a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment to determine whether ADHD is present and understand how it affects the person’s day-to-day life. This process includes a clinical interview, specific tests and an analysis of cognitive functions such as attention, memory and executive functions.

The results of this assessment are presented in a detailed report, in which I explain the difficulties identified and their impact on everyday functioning. I also provide guidance on the prognosis and possible treatment options.

A thorough assessment is essential, as it helps distinguish ADHD from other difficulties and design an appropriate treatment plan.

ADHD treatment: neurofeedback and an integrative approach

One of the most effective techniques for treating ADHD is neurofeedback, which trains the brain to improve attention, self-regulation and impulse control. This treatment is endorsed as a treatment on the same level as pharmacotherapy by the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback.

Through neurofeedback, the brain learns to function more efficiently, leading to gradual improvements in everyday life. This treatment is non-invasive, safe and tailored to each individual.

I also complement the intervention with clinical psychology strategies, allowing us to address brain function as well as emotional and behavioural aspects.

The aim is to provide personalised treatment to help improve quality of life and performance in different areas.
